City Machine Technologies has some unique services that set it apart from others.
Gear Inspection: CMT is capable of inspecting and providing NDT certification on customer’s existing gears and geared apparatus.
Machining large parts: Among CMT’s machine tools are two 112” mills, which are former World War II-era machines that were originally used for making tank turrets. Both have had electronic controls fitted on them.
Spin-casting bearings: A 2,500-square-foot area in the machine shop is dedicated to spin-casting bearings for both customers and competitors.
Step-surge-testing magnets: Each lifting magnet manufactured by CMT is surge-tested at various voltages to find shorts in the magnet coil.
Thermal turn differential testing: Prior to final assembly of lifting magnets, each winding is scanned with a thermal imager at 100 to 500 volts AC. The scan reveals hot spots in the magnet winding.
Static-torque-testing remanufactured brakes: Remanufactured brakes are tested with a static torque tester designed by CMT. The tester is adjustable to accommodate 6”-30” brakes at up to 15,000 lb-foot rated torque.
Testing machines on-site: When a machine is too large to remove from the customer’s premise, CMT tests them with one of two variable-speed drives. A 10 HP unit is used for smaller machines. A 100 HP unit is used for larger ones.
