A Coordinate Measuring Machine (or CMM) has many different uses within the apparatus service industry. Component parts can be measured to insure dimensional correctness. A CMM can also be used to verify the accuracy of the critical fits of a motor. Some examples of this would be the flatness of a motor mounting flange, the concentricity of a stator core to the motor frame, or the trueness of gearbox housing bearing bores.
This measurement process can be done by CMT with portable equipment such as a laser measurement arm. The process is also referred to as GD&T, or Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
