The CMT 24/7/365 service policy was demonstrated again this New Year’s Holiday weekend when a 3000 HP motor from a power plant was removed from service, and sent in for emergency  evaluation and repair.

This was a time critical situation for the customer. The motor was more than 40 years old and had experienced a failure at the connection box. The inspection also revealed many age-related problem areas that if not addressed, would fail in a short time.

In addition to the electrical and mechanical repair work that is normal for motors of this size, there was considerable welding and fabricating work required. CMT technicians were able to perform extensive weld repairs to the rotor, thus extending the life cycle. The motor’s top cover, or bonnet, was completely re-built with new fabricated baffles, structural braces, and new insulation materials. All work took place in eight days, door-to-door.
