Electric motors can and do fail while in service. If motors are not monitored on a frequent basis, a failure can lead to a forced outage. Such outages are often very costly production stopping events.
In order to maximize service life, a motor can be inspected with an instrument known as a Static Motor Analyzer, commonly known as a surge tester. This test device can detect weaknesses in a stator winding, shorted coils, breakdown of the ground wall insulation system and even potential rotor issues. The surge tester is an excellent tool for early, reliable problem detection. The device is capable of data storage, and will also create reports for customers. Predictive maintenance with surge testing can help customers avoid unwanted downtime and expense.
CMT’s technicians are fully trained on surge testing equipment for field inspections and for in-house repair work.
