April is Earth Month, and we can think of nothing more greener than an electric motor rewind. An electric motor rewind can be done to make a motor workable again without the high cost of a new motor. At CMT, we can rewind a motor in an emergency, which means your downtime is minimal.
Usually, when an AC motor fails, it’s because the insulation or coils were damaged by excessive heat or contamination. A stator, the stationary part of the motor, is baked in a controlled high temperature oven until the insulation material turns to ash and allows easier removal of the original coils. Once the stator is free of coils, it can be cleaned, inspected and re-insulated. New coils are then hand wound and installed into a stator. The rewound stator is warmed in an oven, immersed in epoxy varnish and baked to cure. This dip and bake process bonds and protects the new coils.
