Industrial crane brakes are found on all large overhead cranes. These industrial crane brakes are designed to stop and hold loads through several hundred tons.
Industrial crane brakes have a fail-safe device that automatically locks when power is disconnected. It is located in the power transmission components to ensure safety in the event of a gear or shaft failure. Industrial crane brakes are also comprised of many mechanical components: pins, brass bushings, springs and shoes with lining material. Crane brakes also have a magnetic coil that when energized pull the shoes apart and allows the drum inside free motion.
Pictured is an industrial crane brake that was repaired at CMT. A new base was fabricated for it.
CMT can manufacture components like pins, bushings and pull rods for industrial crane brakes. CMT’s in-shop capabilities also include welding wear locations and all aspects of machining to original specification. CMT’s winding department can repair or rewind new magnetic coils and install them into the armature case.
